Welding Fundamentals (3.18-4.24 Session)

This course is a hands on introduction to Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding, manual and CNC Plasma Cutting, and basic welding fabrication, with a short intro into Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding at the end. In this class students will learn how to operate a MIG welder, a Plasma Cutter, Plasma Table Grinders, and other tools used in the welding process. Different types of welding positons and joints will be covered as well.

This is NOT a PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION course. On completion you will receive a Completion Certificate stating that you have participated in an Introductory Welding course with 24 hours of experience split between MIG and TIG welding as well as CNC plasma cutting.

All shop users will have to complete and sign the Innovation Hub Shop/Tool Use Safety Agreement in order to participate in the Innovcation Hub workspace.

Additional Costs
Students pursuing substantial personal design projects are expected to provide their own materials. Specific safety attire is provided, but students must arrive in appropriate shirt, shoes, and pants. Students are welcome to purchase their own safety gear from commercial welding suppliers, as long as it complies with shop standards.

No textbooks are required, but if you are serious about welding and continuing after this class, it is recommended to purchase "Welding Pocket Reference" by James Brumbaugh & Rex Miller.
