Problem-Solving from the Inside-Out   This course explains the difference between solving problems after the fact and getting to the root source of problems to prevent them, or intervene, before they occur. You will learn how and why negative, disruptive behaviors and student problems stem from insecurity, a misunderstood state of mind, that this course will address in depth. The course demonstrates that five problems commonly cited by teachers all arise from the same fundamental lack of understanding of how people think and how students (and teachers alike) can navigate their own thinking to sidestep difficulty: •      Disruptive Students; •      Short Attention Spans; •      Bullying; •      School Violence; •      Problem parents; •      Time Pressure. In Problem-Solving, participants will explore how recognition of the Principles that  describe how our thinking/states of mind work and how would matter to both teachers and students. Course Cost: $199/per course $550/certificate program (all 4 courses) This course is worth 1.5 ILUs.

Redefining Mental Health   Thanks to the discovery of Three Principles that explain and describe the true nature of  how the mind actually works, a new paradigm in mental health has emerged since the mid 1970’s. The introduction of mind-body medicine and a flood of neuroscience research has raised new questions that are moving the mental health field towards a psycho-bio-spiritual understanding of mental well-being. All of this has contributed to the emergence of the study of Resiliency, and a clearer understanding of how all people change and respond to life. This course addresses the evolution of mental health understanding through the 20th century, and describes the current reversal of our understanding of whether circumstances cause our problems, or whether our own thinking creates both problems and solutions.  It describes why a redefinition of mental health is necessary.  The course also explains how Mental Illness has been defined, and the problems associated with the escalating complexity of our approaches to identifying and treating the mentally ill. It presents the hope of the new paradigm to generate dramatic changes in how we define and treat the “mentally ill” and how mental health education operates as a prevention strategy that could preclude mental distress over a lifetime. Course Cost: $199/per course $550/certificate program (all 4 courses) This course is worth 3.5 ILUs.

Imagine this… A group of small children aged 7, enjoying practical science in a woodland area beside their school. They have all the scientific and natural resources to explore real life biology in the environment. The teacher facilitates and then steps back to watch their progress, as one by one they are utterly transfixed by a teeming zoo of mini beasts. They carefully gather their species and prepare to observe habitats and to classify their lively creatures, lying on their tummies, deep in the undergrowth. Except for one child. He is red in the face from his exertion. He chose a slug to examine. However, the slug cannot be transferred to his jar via the straw – like pipe. (Nor can it be properly pooted into a science jar). Using his own initiative, he literally pushes the bewildered slug millimetre by millimetre, inside the corset- tight tube. If a slug had feelings, it would be fairly distraught by now! What happens next? Do you intervene and save the slug? Do you mark this small child’s biology test score as a fail or credit him with an ‘emerging knowledge’ score? Do you admire his tenacity for learning and discovery? This was a child I taught some time ago. His test scores were indeed emerging and far behind his peers at that time. Yet as teachers and educators we see potential way beyond the clip board curriculum of failure or success. Every student brings a uniqueness to our classroom. Every teacher knows this intrinsically. We create learning environments where students want to learn. We gather ideas and blend them, adding the qualities we see in a student when they doubt themselves. Educators, pouring in those ingredients that will allow a child or student to feel they can do anything. And yet we often forget this for ourselves. Who shines a light for us when we doubt our teaching? Who supports our resiliency in teaching? This course is designed to enable us to understand how we can respond to everyday teaching and life. How we have our own inner guidance and wisdom to help us to see and understand how innate resilience is always present and so is our natural joy in teaching. PS The inquisitive young boy is now a marine biologist. Course Cost: $199/per course $550/certificate program (all 4 courses) This course is worth 1.5 ILUs. Instructor: Anni Poole, BA Hons Has over two decades of leadership experience as a principal within the primary with nursery sector (K1-K6).  Anni’s passion for education and for the well-being of children and youth has been her driver for 40 years in schools across Lancashire and Greater Manchester, UK.  In 2013, Anni trained internationally in this understanding, the Three Principles.  She sees it as having an amazing impact on her life, and has recently created a coaching program for 3-11 year olds, ARC (Amazing Resilient Children).

What is Resiliency?   Resilience is the natural ability of all people to “bounce back,” to recover naturally from setbacks of any kind to regain their balance and sense of well-being. For many years, we have believed it was a ‘learned behavior,” and resilience skills had to be taught. But with advances in psycho-bio-spiritual understanding, we are coming to realize that Resilience is an innate quality that is always accessible, even if not always being accessed. This course explains the natural resilience that is defined by the Principles that describe how our psychological functioning works. You will see how resilience is readily accessed, and how we know when we are drifting away from it. Through an understanding of states of mind and the changing ratios of tension/mood that make them variable, you will see how people learn to navigate through the ups and downs of life without giving away their peace of mind. And you will see how an understanding of resilience, and regaining peace of mind, allows people to sidestep stress and burnout and resolve issues. Course Cost: $199/per course $550/certificate program (all 4 courses) This course is worth 1.5 ILUs.

Undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs around the world require students to demonstrate their ability to communicate in English as an entrance requirement. The TOEFL test gives test takers the opportunity to prove they can communicate ideas effectively by simulating university classroom and student life communication. The test measures how well test takers use English, not just their knowledge of the language. This course provides a comprehensive overview of the TOEFL, including information about the test, an explanation of test scores, and thorough coverage of each area of the test itself. In addition, students will have the opportunity to take practice TOEFL tests that will help estimate how the student might perform on the actual test. Upon completion of this course, students will be fully prepared to take the TOEFL examination. Details
